Modular, lightweight vehicle barrier system deployable by two people for rapid access control.
DETER
Deployable Expedient Traffic Entry Regulator (DETER)
Rapidly deployable modular protection for dynamic threat environments.
DETER
The Deployable Expedient Traffic Entry Regulator (DETER) is a modular, rapidly deployable active vehicle barrier designed to protect critical assets and soft targets from vehicular attacks. Designed around a standard QuadCon ISO container base for easy storage and transport, DETER uses a frictional matting system and an active wedge barrier to stop large vehicles in their tracks. Placement or recovery can be completed in under 30 minutes without specialized tools, equipment, or anchoring.
Edwards Design and Fabrication, Inc. is the licensed manufacturer for DETER and is authorized to deliver it to both government and commercial customers. From fabricating test units and conducting demonstrations to producing deployed hardware, we have supported the DETER program since its inception. Our team has also contributed to design innovations and manufacturing improvements, ensuring reliable, reusable barriers that deliver proven access control in the field.
Three Primary Benefits of DETER
Whether securing checkpoints, event venues, or critical infrastructure, the Deployable Expedient Traffic Entry Regulator (DETER) provides rapid access control against vehicular threats. Modular and friction-based, DETER delivers certified stopping power with speed, adaptability, and reusability.
Rapid
No-Tool Deployment
Deploy or recover the system in under 30 minutes—no anchoring, heavy machinery, or special tools required.
Scalable &
Mission-Flexible
Link modular 8-foot sections to secure lanes of varying widths and adapt to multiple road surfaces and environments.
Proven Protection,
Built to Last
Certified against large vehicle threats, DETER integrates a friction mat and active wedge barrier—durable, reusable, and field-ready.
DETER FAQ
What comes in a standard DETER kit?
Each DETER kit includes modular 8-ft sections with a friction mat, active wedge barrier, entry and exit walls, crossbars, and connectors—stowed in a configuration of a QuadCon ISO container footprint for easy transport and setup.
Do I need heavy machinery to deploy it?
No. DETER requires no anchoring or tools—deployment and recovery are completely soldier-powered.
How quickly can it be deployed?
The system can be placed or recovered in under 30 minutes, making it ideal for rapid access control in high-risk areas.
What kind of threats does it stop?
DETER is certified (IWA 14-1:2013) to stop large vehicles, including Class 7 trucks, protecting critical assets and soft targets.
Is the system reusable?
Yes. DETER is modular, easily recovered, and redeployed across multiple missions, making it a durable long-term solution.

I had an air dryer that needed some aluminum welding, I talked to several welding shops and they were the only one that told me they could fix it while I waited. Not only did they fix it there repair was superior compared to two repairs I had previously. Would give a 10+ great people great work.Posted on Abby EdwardsTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Very hard-working family business. Would recommend 10/10.
